Actor John Schneider, of “The Dukes of Hazzard” fame, appears to have earned the attention of the U.S. Secret Service with a since-deleted post on social media calling for President Biden and son Hunter to be “publicly hung.”
Schneider, 63, went from “hazzard” to potential menace with a reply Wednesday to Biden’s post on X, in which the president wrote that Donald Trump poses many threats to the United States, “but the greatest threat he poses is to our democracy.”
“If we lose that, we lose everything,” Biden concluded, alluding to recent comparisons of the former president’s rhetoric to that of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
“Mr. President, I believe you are guilty of treason and should be publicly hung. Your son too,” Schneider wrote in response, according to TMZ, which posted screenshots of the tweets.
Schneider has allegedly tweeted other messages accusing Biden of treason, along with Dr. Anthony Fauci, the once chief medical advisor to the president.
A representative for the Secret Service told TMZ they were aware of Schneider’s remarks. While they said they wouldn’t comment further on “matters involving protective intelligence,” they did confirm the agency “investigates all threats related to our protectees.”
In a statement issued to the outlet on Thursday, Schneider appeared to deny the tweets, despite there being screenshot evidence.
“Seriously, folks? I said no such thing,” he claimed. “Despite headlines claiming otherwise, I absolutely did not call for an act of violence or threaten a U.S. president.”
Schneider is best-known for playing Bo Duke on TV sitcom “The Dukes of Hazzard” from 1979 to 1985, and as Jonathan Kent in six seasons of The CW’s “Smallville.”
