An off-duty cop was fatally shot and multiple other people were wounded in a Thursday evening rampage in Raleigh, N.C.
Early reports indicated the fallen officer was not the only fatality, according to a local ABC affiliate, which cited law enforcement sources.
Raleigh police said they’d responded to an “active shooter” just before 6 p.m. in the city’s Hedingham neighborhood. The scene was yet to be contained 90 minutes into the response, according to cops, with several roads blocked off.
At least three victims were taken to a local hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.
“I have spoken with Mayor [Mary-Ann] Baldwin and instructed state law enforcement to provide assistance responding to the active shooter in East Raleigh,” North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said. “State and local officers are on the ground and working to stop the shooter and keep people safe.”
