Jimmie Johnson’s parents-in-law, nephew dead in murder-suicide

NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson and wife Chandra Janway are mourning the death of her parents and 11-year-old nephew, who were shot dead in a suspected murder-suicide in Oklahoma on Monday.

Police in Muskogee, Okla., told TMZ Sports they received a 911 call on Monday night from a woman who reported someone with a gun and then hung up the phone.

After responding to the scene around 9 p.m., the police found one body in the hallway of the house, heard a gunshot, and then found two more bodies, TMZ reports.

The deceased were Jack and Terry Janway, Chandra’s parents, and Dalton Janway, her nephew. All three had died from gunshot wounds. Though it’s not clear who made the 911 call, police told TMZ they’re treating the case as a murder-suicide.

According to Tulsa’s FOX23, police said they suspect 68-year-old Terry of fatally shooting 69-year-old husband Jack and their grandson Dalton.

Marlon Coleman, mayor of Muskogee, told FOX23 he knew the Janways and had been a patient at Jack’s chiropractic practice.

“It was traumatizing to find out that a long-standing family who had made so many contributions to our community were involved in this type of incident. It was even more bone-chilling to find out there was a child involved,” Coleman said. “Dr Janway has worked on me, we’ve been acquaintances for a very, very long time since I’ve been in Muskogee. Just knowing that it was him and his family took a different toll on me.”

Monday’s killings came nine years after Jack and Terry lost their 27-year-old son Jordan in a skydiving accident.

Johnson, who married into the family when he and Chandra tied the knot in 2004, is scheduled to compete in the NASCAR Chicago Street Race this weekend, according to TMZ.
