Adding whimsical touches to my home is one of my favorite ways to make the space cozy, especially during the holiday season, when cold temperatures and school breaks mean my family spends more time than ever inside. We host many guests, including overnight visitors, throughout the winter months, and wrapping our loved ones up in a warm, comfy atmosphere is one of my favorite ways to show my love.
So I string up lights, make sure our blankets are fresh, set up a hot chocolate bar, and (as of this year!) hide hinge toppers around the house. Anything that brings a smile to my kids’ faces or that could get woven into their future childhood nostalgia is a big yes from me. And when I saw this super fun, 10-second cheery holiday decor hack on Instagram, you better believe I did it right away.
How to Make a Kitchen Towel Bow
This simple decor hack involves making a bow out of two kitchen towels, and I’m totally obsessed. I love that I didn’t need any extra tools to make the bows! Here’s how you do it:
I just used the black and white towels we already had (I love the black towels because they don’t show anything, and I do not love the white on the towels because they show every single stain, but we are sticking with them for now!). Even using the more plain towels to make a bow instantly made the kitchen more festive, but I’ve got my eye on these red snowflake print towels to make the bows really pop.
I couldn’t resist adding another bow to the handle of the speed oven door! I used slightly fluffier black towels for this bow, and ended up folding the ribbon towel twice so the proportions looked good, but, oh, my joy when I looked into the kitchen festooned with bows! I can’t wait until my kids discover it, and I’m so excited to share it with my guests. This is just one of several free DIY holiday kitchen decorations you can try in your home today.
