Should you secure defections or sabotage Westport in The Outer Worlds 2

0

When you get to Westport in The Outer Worlds 2, during The Brain Bender’s of Auntie’s Choice mission, you will need to decide if you want to sabotage important systems to get people to leave, or just do your best to convince people to defect. There is often something important or secret hidden behind these decisions in The Outer Worlds 2, so let’s break down both choices.

There isn’t actually a tremendous difference between these two paths. The defection path has more skill checks (you will want a good Speech rating of at least three, if not four), and you will get more XP from it. Ultimately, it is Milverstreet back in Fairfield who rewards you with his hat and some cash, no matter what you do.

I prefer to convince people to leave by helping them, as it feels a bit less deceptive.

Sabotage the systems

If you go with this option, you will need to sabotage the generator, loudspeaker, and water purifier. This will take out every critical system, forcing Vigilant Hogath to finally make the decision to move his people in with the Auntie’s Choice crew in Fairfield. He really doesn’t want to do this, but is willing to put his people first.

  • Generator – For the generator, just drop in through the broken section of the roof to be able to sabotage it.
  • Loudspeaker – To get into the comms room, go to where you met Hogarth and look at a table to his right. You will see a Westport Broadcast Facility Keycard on the table you can grab. Head back to the room and go inside using the keycard, then use the Propagandizer to change the messages.
  • Water Purifier – This can be found on the northern side of the town, near the water. You do need to fight your way to it, as it is in a restricted area.

Secure defections

To secure defections, you will need to talk to Curativist Rowe, Charlton Weintraut, and Interim Chief Mechanist Pinckey. This definitely takes longer, as each one will have things that they need you to do in order to win their support for your defection plan. There are also some high skill checks here, so it just may not be possible for you to complete this route.

  • Curativist Rowe – give her a Case of Auntie’s Choice Ambidextrine to show her that the meds available are good quality, but you’ll need at least level two in Speech to do this. Even then, you need to get her some medical supplies. Go to the western section of the town and find her four pieces of the Waterlogged Protectorate Medicine and bring them back to her. You can easily find them on bodies, in loot bags, or just sitting on tables in some of the ruined buildings.
  • Interim Chief Mechanist Pinckey – If you just talk to Pickney, he will need a Speech 4 check, but you likely won’t have that. Instead, go to the loudspeakers and sabotage them with the Auntie’s Choice Propagandizer. It’s fine to do this even if you don’t plan on doing the rest of the sabotage mission. Go back and talk to Pickey, and you’ll be able to convince him to go.
  • Charlton Weintraut – For Charlton, go and examine his house in the flooded area. It can be found in the row of houses at the back, just up the small incline. It’s the third house from the right. Go inside, and you will find a computer terminal. Read the messages to learn Charlton’s secrets, then go and chat with him. You should also grab the Tossball Card on the table.

After that, head back to Hogarth and talk to him about relocating again. Tell him his people are going to go, and that he needs to go with them. He’ll say he wants to stay, but can be convinced to go to safety with the rest without much issue.

Hailing from Ireland, Aidan has been conditioned by local weather conditions to survive hours at his PC grinding through whatever game is offering the lowest possible drop rates for loot. He thinks the easiest way to figure out what fans of games want to read is to just be a fan of games. You can normally find him logged into Warframe, Destiny, or a gacha game.
