Ghost of Yotei does exactly what you want a sequel to do: give you more of what made the original great, while expanding upon the story and gameplay in an interesting way. Sucker Punch Productions built on the foundation laid by Ghost of Tsushima to craft one of the best action adventure games of 2025.
While there are connections to the previous game, Ghost of Yotei is a standalone experience that follows Atsu, a young woman on a quest to avenge the killing of her family at the hands of a group known as the Yotei Six. It’s a classic samurai story that takes notes from classic Akira Kurosawa films like Seven Samurai and Rashomon. The story is anchored by an incredible performance from Erika Ishii, who gives some of their best work in Sucker Punch’s latest game.
From a gameplay perspective, Ghost of Yotei features one of the most immersive worlds gaming has seen in years. Sucker Punch masterfully uses the environment to guide players towards objectives, making exploration feel natural and organic. Combat is a beautiful dance of anticipating your opponent’s attack, and having the patience to strike when the moment presents itself. Every boss fight feels as cinematic as anything we played this year.
With the conversion around exclusivity continuing to evolve in 2025, Ghost of Yotei was a premium experience that you could only get on a PS5. A game built from the ground-up to take advantage of Sony’s console in a way that elevates the story and gameplay. If you own a PlayStation 5, you owe it to yourself to see what Ghost of Yotei has in store.
