We got a taste of Ejae (Rumi), Audrey Nuna (Mira), and Rei Ami (Zoey), the glorious singers behind KPop Demon Hunters’ fictional K-pop band Huntr/x, during their brief stint on Saturday Night Live. There, the girls featured as cameos in a sketch that had them fighting demons alongside rapper Bad Bunny. Entertaining, sure, but only a small taste of their vocal prowess.
Now the trio has taken it one step further: performing live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Fallon’s show has featured many musical acts over the years, but speaking as an enthusiastic fan of KPop Demon Hunters, I don’t think I’ve been as excited to watch a performance as I was this one.
While SNL technically takes the trophy for being the first time the band has performed live together, the group’s performance on Fallon will almost certainly be the one that people will be replaying for a long time to come.
With backing visuals from the movie playing behind them, Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami performed the hit that has taken them to the top of Billboard’s Top 100, “Golden.” It’s a song that’s broken records, and one that lead singer Ejae recently explained came to her while she was driving to the dentist, where she actually ended up getting a gold filling. Coincidence? Fate? Maybe a bit of both.
The group was also interviewed by Fallon, where they spoke about the emotional responses they’ve received from fans of the film, how their lives have changed since, and the surprise at receiving a Platinum Record, which is awarded after selling one million units of an album or single.
The popularity and global reach of KPop Demon Hunters only continue to grow. With a successful theatrical release and a sequel undoubtedly on the way, the direction of where Huntr/x will go next seems clear: up, up, up.
