How to save gameplay recordings using Discord Clips

Discord Clips lets you capture moments from your game and save them directly to your computer.

Discord Clips is a new feature for Nitro subscribers that let them save recordings of their games. This can be used whether you’re streaming to your friends in Discord or just playing a game by yourself. With a press of the Save Clip hotkey, you’ll secure the last 30 seconds of your game.

How to save recordings using Discord Clips

When playing a game while Discord is open and Discord Overlay is on, press Alt + C to save a recording using Discord Clips. This will save the last 30 seconds of gameplay. The official Discord support page does note a few interesting snippets of information:

  • Discord Clips is currently in early access for Nitro members only
  • Must be enabled under the Clips option in the Settings screen
  • The clip length can be 30 seconds, 1 minute, or 2 minutes
  • Discord Clips default storage location is the Desktop or Documents folder
  • Discord Overlay must be enabled

To turn on Discord Overlay, click the gear icon to open the Settings screen. From here, scroll down to the Activity Settings section and then click Game Overlay. Look for the Enable Overlay switch and click it to turn the toggle green.

When streaming in Discord, you can also click the Save Clip button beside the Stop Streaming button. This will save your gameplay based on the clip length you selected in the settings. At this point, you can find the clips in the location you chose or the default one mentioned above or you can edit the clips.

How to edit Discord Clips

Discord lets you edit the clips you recorded using the plus icon (+) inside a text channel. Click it, select Share a Clip, and find the clip you want to edit. Look for the icon of a square split in half by a vertical dotted line. Clicking this icon opens up a timeline that lets you select the exact moment you want to capture in your Discord Clip. When you’re done, click the checkmark to save the clip.

Discord Clips are another way players can save highlights of their games. For those with Nitro, remember to hit the hotkey so you can capture those exciting moments, just make sure Overlay is enabled. Check out our Discord topic page for more on the program and join the official Shacknews Community Server.
