The gameplay sets you in an open-world Los Angeles, and its combat mechanics differ from its predecessors.

- Rising Star: Complete 20 non-story quests
- LA Influential: Complete 40 non-story quests
- Anger Management: Slay 50 zombies with fury attacks
- Apex Predator: Knockdown 10 apex variants
- Bookworm: Collect 20 journals
- Ooh, Shiny: Find your first legendary weapon
- Zombologist: Unlock every zombie type in Zompedia
- On Safari: Complete the first tier of every Zombie challenge
- Break a Leg: Main 100 limbs
- Coup de Grace: Slay 25 zombies using finishing moves
- Donk: Throw a melee weapon and hit a zombie 35+ meters away
- Hazardous Materials: Slay 100 zombies using caustic, fire, or shock damage
- I Am the Resurrection: Revive other Slayers five times

The achievement list contains many unlocks for taking down the zombies in several ways. These include maiming limbs, taking the undead out with brilliant finisher moves, using the fury mode to finish them, and more. Moreover, there are achievements for completing the Zompedia, the in-game encyclopedia to identify the variants of zombies you come across. However, there are no rewards for completing each challenge or reaching a certain level.
Keep in mind, the list of achievements is not complete. There is another set of achievements that are currently unknown and will be known after release.
