Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ:WBD) is said to be planning to stream live sports starting as soon as the Major League Baseball playoffs in October.
The company will tap its Bleacher Report brand to roll out a sports tier on its streaming service Max, CNBC reported, with plans to simulcast live games on cable television and streaming.
That will include plans to show games not only from MLB but also the National Basketball Association, National Hockey League and NCAA college sports, notably including the March Madness collegiate basketball championship tournament.
Such games wouldn’t be exclusive to Max but simulcast from WBD’s networks TBS and TNT for now; any exclusive games would begin next year at the earliest, and likely come as part of a deal renewal between WBD and the NBA, CNBC said.
And Max’s sports tier will cost extra, though the price hasn’t yet been made final, according to the report. As is, Max costs $15.99 per month ad-free, or $9.99 per month with advertising.
