Railway personnel services provider Rail Unit has entered a full-service leasing agreement with European Loc Pool (ELP) for the EuroDual locomotive, expanding its fleet.
EuroDual is a dual-power locomotive that integrates an electric power output reaching up to 6.2MW alongside a diesel power output of 2.8MW.
With a tractive effort of 500 kilonewtons, it can maintain performance in both diesel and electric operational modes.
Rail Unit managing director Ceyhun Celep said: “For us, the flexibility of the EuroDual plays a major and decisive role. Knowing that we are no longer dependent on third parties or need to change locomotives to operate on non-electrified lines or sidings is crucial for us. This allows us to meet our customers’ requirements at any time.
“If you want to act flexibly at any time to meet customer requirements, the EuroDual is almost without alternative. Knowing that you have a locomotive that is both a full-fledged electric and a full-fledged diesel locomotive is very reassuring and increases our anticipation for its deployment.”
Scheduled to start service in September 2026, the EuroDual will be utilised on all national routes throughout Germany.
ELP is known for its focus on six-axle hybrid locomotives, which are equipped with the latest European Train Control System (ETCS) Baseline 3, allowing for operation on category 2 lines.
ELP has been a part of the German rail network since April 2020 with its EuroDual locomotives that facilitate operations on electrified and non-electrified routes, in addition to last-mile and shunting service.
ELP CEO Willem Goosen said: “With Rail Unit, we gain an innovative company that shares our values of flexibility, reliability and sustainability. We are proud to support them in their growth with a EuroDual locomotive.”
Headquartered in Switzerland, ELP has been providing locomotive leasing and maintenance solutions since May 2018.
The company placed an order in May 2019 for the initial ten Euro9000 locomotives from Stadler.
“Rail Unit signs lease agreement with European Loc Pool for EuroDual” was originally created and published by Leasing Life, a GlobalData owned brand.
