A prominent location in Scream 3 was the cabin belonging to Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell). The filming location now serves as a vacation rental and special events venue. While within the Scream franchise, the cabin was purportedly near the Central California coast in Monterey. In real life, visitors can find it in Topanga, just a few miles north of Malibu.
“This was way up in the hills. It was quite a schlep for the Teamsters to get everything up there, but it was a great location,” said director Wes Craven in the DVD commentary.
Formerly known as Windwalk Ranch, the property was previously owned by Silver Spoons actor Ricky Schroder and his then-wife Andrea from 2005 through 2019, which would have been after Craven and company shot Scream 3 there. The complex was then rehabbed and rebranded by Elsewhere California as The Estate after an off-market deal for $9.3 million.
The location, found at the end of a private road, is surrounded by vast acreage and dusty roadways. According to Dirt, seven unique spaces are available for short and long-term stays, special events, filming, and photo shoots. The venue includes a main residency, barn, guest house, carriages, trails, flowering gardens, a large riding ring, and several one-hundred-year-old oak trees.
The structure that Scream 3 used as Sidney’s residence is known as the Gate House. Most prominently, the Gate House was shown at the very end of the movie, where Dewey Riley (David Arquette) proposed to Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox) on the main deck. That scene was shortly followed by Sidney feeling comfortable enough to leave her front door standing opening, capping off what was intended to be the ending of a trilogy.
“We all felt very much Sidney had earned the right to have the doors open.”
Where Guests Will Be Staying
Due to the remodeling, the cabin is now less rustic and has a more bohemian or Old Hollywood glam vibe. However, the barn doors, brick wall covering, bay windows that were visible in the movie, and the general layout remain intact.
It consists of two bedrooms and one large bath in 1,053 square feet. There’s also a living room, dining area, peak-roofed loft, fully stocked kitchen with farmhouse sink, a professional range, an espresso machine, and a stainless steel appliance suite with an oversized two-door fridge. The property also includes an onsite washer/dryer and WiFi.
Guests will find two massive decks outside the cabin, with one in the front stocked with chaise lounges, a fire pit, a dining area, a BBQ, a shower, and a cedar soaking tub offering seating for six. The secondary terrace wraps around the rear of the house and has been equipped with rocking chairs, a seating area, and access to the main bedroom.
Rates on Airbnb start at about $600, which some might find scarier than any horror movie they’ve watched. Guests should also know that deer will likely greet them upon their arrival. However, they’ll no doubt provide a much warmer welcome than Ghostface or the specter of Sidney’s murdered mother, Maureen (Lynn McRee).
