Wolf Like Me Cast and Character Guide

Released in January 2022, Wolf Like Me is a Peacock original series that blends horror, comedy, and romance to tell an endearing father-daughter story. The plot concerns Gary, a single American father living with his 11-year-old daughter Emma in Australia following the death of her mother. As Gary struggles to connect with Emma, the two meet a mysterious woman named Mary who harbors her own sinister secret and affects their lives in unexpected ways.

With Season 2 of Wolf Like Me set to premiere on October 19, 2023, now is a great time to catch up on the first season ahead of Halloween and prepare for what’s in store next for Gary, Mary, and Emma. Beyond the three main characters, Wolf Like Me boasts a talented ensemble of supporting players that add an immeasurable entertainment value to the enjoyable horror show.

Josh Gad as Gary

Peacock

Josh Gad stars as Gary, a single father living in Adelaide, Australia with his daughter, Emma. Still grieving over the sudden tragic death of his wife, Lisa, Gary is aimless and ineffectual when the series begins. Much of his dismay stems from his inability to reach Emma on an emotional level, with his emotional grief stunting their ability to connect. However, things begin to look up for Gary when he meets the enchanting stranger, Mary.

Gad is a multitalented actor known for his comedy, drama, musical performances, and voice-over work. While his best-known role remains the singing snowman Olaf from the Frozen franchise, Gad has made his mark in everything from Beauty and the Beast and Pixels to 1600 Penn and Central Park. Gad is set to reprise his role as LeFou in the upcoming TV miniseries Little Town, which he will write, produce, and star in for Walt Disney Television.

Isla Fisher as Mary

Isla Fisher portrays Mary in the acclaimed Peacock original series. Mary works as an advice columnist by day but gets into mysterious activities at night that call into question her true nature. Much like Gary and Emma, Mary is also dealing with emotional issues relating to a family tragedy that keeps her at arm’s length from strangers. However, a running gag on the show involves Gary and Emma constantly running into Mary in the small Australian town.

Fisher is a popular actress who has appeared in some of the most beloved comedies of the past 20 years. After developing her skills in nearly 400 episodes of the Aussie soap opera Home and Away, Fisher scored her first big movie breakout in the raunchy buddy comedy, Wedding Crashers. Since then, Fisher has gone on to star in such popular titles as Arrested Development and Rango. Fisher and Gad also recently co-starred in the animated film, Strays, proving their impressive voice-over skills.

Ariel Donoghue as Emma

Ariel Donoghue depicts Emma, Gary’s 11-year-old daughter. Emma was extremely close with her mother before her tragic demise, leaving a void in her soul that her father struggles to fill. Things take a turn for the better when Emma finds a kindred spirit in Mary. However, Mary has a deep dark secret that she wants to keep hidden from everyone, including Gary and Emma, which drives the narrative conceit of the show.

Donoghue gives an impressive performance far beyond her years in Wolf Like Me, which suggests she has plenty of experience. Surprisingly, Donoghue only appeared in three short films and one episode of High Life before landing such a vital role in the Peacock original series. In addition to Wolf Like Me, Donoghue can be seen in the family marine drama Blueback and the Stan original comedy series C*A*U*G*H*T.

Emma Lung as Sarah

Emma Lung plays Sarah in the rewatchable horror TV show. Sarah is Lisa’s sister and Gary’s sister-in-law. When Lisa dies in a car accident to begin the series, Sarah also expresses grief for her tragic loss and shows loving support for Gary and Emma. In addition to emotional support, Sarah offers Emma to stay with her in her lavish abode with a swimming pool. While most of the drama revolves around the trio of main actors, Lung makes the most of her brief appearances as Sarah.

Lung is an accomplished Australian actress with a healthy balance of movies and TV credits. Before being cast in Wolf Like Me, Lung starred in the hit Aussie drama series Wonderland and the popular crime series The Straits. Lung’s notable movie credits include Triangle, The Jammed, and Crave. Lung can currently be seen in the 2023 Prime original series The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.

Anthony Taufa as Ray

Anthony Taufa makes a few minor appearances as Ray on the show. Ray is Sarah’s cheery and upbeat husband who is often seen taking care of his family. When Ray isn’t poking fun at Gary for his new romantic dalliances with Mary, he’s often seen cooking dinner for the family or enjoying a sports game. No matter what he’s up to, Ray remains friendly and welcoming on the show.

Taufa is an Australian actor who has amassed 20 credits since 2010. After playing several nondescript characters in low-budget genre movies, Taufa worked with Wolf Like Me creator Abe Forsythe in the 2016 crime comedy Down Under. Forsythe obviously enjoyed Taufa’s performance to cast him again. After transitioning to television in 2017, Taufa has appeared in Top of the Lake, Mr. Inbetween, and Young Rock.

Alan Dukes as Trevor

Alan Dukes portrays Trevor in the female-driven fantasy TV show. Trevor is a professional psychiatrist whom Gary takes Emma to visit to deal with her emotional trauma following her mother’s death. However, perhaps due to his cold and distant demeanor, Emma is reluctant to open up to Trevor. Worse yet, Trevor seems more interested in positing his own opinion about Emma than truly listening to her plight.

With over 80 credits to date, Dukes is the most experienced cast member in Wolf Like Me. The Australian actor has made his presence felt as a US Delegate in Thor: Love and Thunder, and recently starred in the acclaimed Aussie Netflix thriller The Stranger opposite Joel Edgerton. Dukes also has previous experience working with Abe Forsythe in the horror comedy Little Monsters, which also featured Josh Gad.

Robyn Nevin as Gwen

Robyn Nevin plays Gwen in Wolf Like Me. Gwen is an elderly patient with dementia who stays at a nearby hospital in Adelaide. Since Gwen has a hard time remembering things, Mary feels comfortable confiding her dark secret to Gwen, who acts as a de facto therapist for the female lead. While it seems as if Mary is taking advantage of her, Gwen gives a critical piece of heartfelt advice that pays off later in the series.

A supremely talented actor with 60 years of screen experience, Nevin has been a mainstay in The Matrix franchise after playing Councillor Dillard in multiple movies and a video game spinoff. More recently, Nevin starred in the must-see slow-burn horror movie Relic as well as the uplifting dramedy, The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race. Nevin can be seen next in the upcoming arachnoid horror movie Sting.

Jake Ryan as Shane

Jake Ryan plays a character named Shane. Although Shane only appears in the final episode, his ultimate fate is unforgettable. When Gary and Emma are left stranded in the woods during a camping trip with Mary, Shane and his friend appear and confront the two. While failing to express what they want from Gary and Emma, the aggressive nature of the two strangers indicates ill intent.

Ryan is an experienced Australian actor who continues to increase his profile. While he began his career on the long-running soap Home and Away along with Isla Fisher, Ryan has gone on to make his presence felt in such esteemed projects as Baz Luhrmann’s popular movie, The Great Gatsby,as well as Wolf Creek (the TV series), and Savage. Since appearing in Wolf Like Me, Ryan has gone on to play roles in the crime miniseries Last King of the Cross and the Stan original comedy series Ten Pound Poms.

Nash Edgerton as Jayden

Nash Edgerton appears alongside Shane as a vicious stranger named Jayden. When Shane and Jayden accost Gary and Emma in the woods, Mary is forced to save the endangered father and daughter. Considering the title of the show, it’s pretty easy to figure out how the two strangers meet their fate during the Season 1 finale. While Jayden’s appearance is brief, it leads to one of the most visceral moments in the show.

The brother of Joel Edgerton, Nash is a talented Australian filmmaker in his own right. He directed the severely underrated Coen-esque crime film The Square in 2008 and the 2018 stoner action movie Gringo. Edgerton is also an accomplished character actor who has appeared in The Equalizer, The Gift, The Invisible Man, and more. Edgerton also worked with Ray Taufa on Mr. Inbetween, giving the cast of Wolf Like Me even more familiarity.

Helen Kim as Mi-Gyung

After setting up a public date, Gary and Kim meet in a restaurant. Awkward hilarity ensues when Mi-Gyung reveals she is more interested in learning English from Gary than forming a romance with him.

Helen Kim is a relative newcomer with a handful of credits in her young career thus far. After appearing in the TV medical drama, Doctor Doctor,in 2021, Kim has gone on to play a recurring character named Hannah in the romantic miniseries No Ordinary Love. Up next, Kim will play a role in the Australian dramatic horror movie Ugly Carter by first-time filmmaker Russall S. Beattie.
