The Mandalorian has given us two amazing seasons so far, with a third set to be released on March 1st, 2023. The Disney+ series revolves around the titular bounty hunter, Din Djarin, whose encounter with Grogu, a Force-sensitive creature, leads to a number of encounters with the former Empire, the Resistance, and a few remaining Jedi. While there are a number of theories to what the Season 3 will entail, there is, of course, no way for anyone to know for sure what will happen. However, what we do know is that we are going to get more Din and Grogu moments.
Din Djarin and Grogu may simply start out as a bounty hunter and his bounty, but it quickly develops into an unbreakable bond that can only be equated to something like father-son. Throughout The Mandalorian so far, there have been a number of moments that qualify as being heart-warming. These moments show the softer father-like side of the initially callous bounty hunter, making him one of the most likable characters in the entire Star Wars franchise. Here are 10 father-son moments between Din and Grogu that are bound to melt your insides.
10/10 Rescuing Grogu from the Empire
While Mando was the one who took the task to retrieve Grogu and bring him back to the remnants of the Empire, he quickly changed his mind when he saw that they were going to use the child for their own purposes. When Din realizes what he’s done, he returns to where he left the child and steals him back. Going against everything Mando initially believed in when it came to his job, this action is part of what spawns the close relationship between Din and Grogu, sparking a level of mutual compassion and love.
9/10 Stopping Him From Eating Frogs
Much like any parent would step in when their children are over-indulging on treats, Din scolds Grogu for binge-ing on frogs and tells him to stop. While this action may seem like nothing, the true depth of such a small intervention runs further than you may think. Mando stepping in to stop the child from eating too many frogs shows how father-like Din has become since encountering The Child. His hyper-vigilance makes sure that if Grogu is ever in trouble, he’ll be there, even if that trouble means a tummy ache from too much junk.
8/10 Giving Grogu a Toy
One of the sweetest moments between Din and Grogu in The Mandalorian so far is when Grogu’s obsession with the little ball attachment on Mando’s ship is finally satisfied, and Din gives Grogu the ball to play with. Seeing this scene after witnessing multiple occasions of Din taking it away from Grogu only adds to the sweetness of the moment as it displays their growing relationship. This scene also shows the realities of parenting when sometimes you can’t help yourself, and you cave in to the cuteness.
7/10 Din’s Final Wishes
In the final episode of the first season of The Mandalorian, Din was struggling to stay alive due to a severe head injury that required immediate medical attention. As Din was ready to accept his fate, knowing he was done for, he made sure that his last wishes were told to Cara Dune. Like any good father, his only wish was that she take care of Grogu and keep him safely hidden from Moff Gideon. While obviously Din Djarin made it out alive, thanks to the help of IG-11, the fact that Din’s words, when he thought he was dying, revolved around Grogu says a lot about the bond they have — very much like a father and son.
6/10 Hyping Grogu Up
In the second season of The Mandalorian, we get more insight into Grogu’s powers. When Din and Grogu meet with Ahsoka, she tests The Child, trying to see what he is capable of. Ahsoka does not manage to get Grogu to use his powers, but Din does, hyping him up and cheering for him when he succeeds. Just like any parent cheering for their child when they accomplish a great task, Din’s support is all that Grogu needs to channel his Force abilities and show how strong he truly is.
5/10 Crossing the Galaxy
While it may seem like Din is merely looking after The Child, his depth of care for Grogu runs a lot deeper than most may think. The perfect example of this is Mando’s determination in reuniting him with his own kind, which entails crossing the galaxy in search of other Jedi, a Herculean task considering there’s so few known left. This leads to a number of mishaps along the way that nearly cost them their lives. Din’s willingness to travel the galaxy to bring Grogu to where he needs to be, shows the love that he has for the little green guy, only wanting what’s best for him, like a true parent.
4/10 Excited to Finally Find Out His Name
Throughout the entire first season, and much of the second season of The Mandalorian, Grogu’s name is a mystery, which is how he earned the nickname “Baby Yoda” by the audience. He is merely referred to as The Child throughout the series until Ahsoka speaks with him, and his name is finally revealed to us. Not only did this excite the entire audience, but the typically cold Mando is ecstatic to finally be able to hear the child’s name so that he can call him something other than “Kid.”
3/10 Showing His Face
“This is the way.” The Mandalorian creed revolves around not showing their faces to anyone else, keeping their helmet on at all costs. Something that Din did that shocked audiences everywhere was when he took off his helmet and showed his face to Grogu. Not only was this a clear sign of the trust he has in Grogu, but it also allowed us to see the depth of emotion on Din’s face when he and Grogu initially parted ways at the end of Season 2. Breaking the Mandalorian rules for Grogu is an act that a father would do for his son.
2/10 Scaring Moff Gideon
Nothing comes between a good parent and their child, and the same can be said for Din and Grogu. When Moff Gideon kidnaps Grogu, his pure rage becomes the catalyst for getting Grogu back. Din sends a holomessage to Moff Gideon, warning him that he will get Grogu back. We can see the fear in Moff Gideon’s face. Just like a mother who would lift a car to save their child, Din Djarin is willing to do anything to get Grogu back.
1/10 “This is the last time.”
Much of The Book of Boba Fett revolved around Grogu and Din and their eventual reunion. In Din’s new and improved ship, Grogu has his own little compartment and enjoys the super-speed of the ship. In the last episode, Grogu begins tapping on the glass of his droid pod to get Mando’s attention, Mando says “no” a number of times before giving in and saying, “This is the last time,” before jolting off in the ship with ultimate speed, an action that gave Grogu a great deal of joy. This action will most likely look familiar to all parents who’ve ever caved to their child saying “Again, again!”
