Star Wars: The Old Republic may be a game about saving or destroying the galaxy far, far away but its latest update asks players to take a break and hang out with their in-game romantic partner. Despite being over a decade old, Bioware’s massive MMO continues to impress its community with substantial content updates and seasons filled with new events, missions, locations, and characters. While wooing NPCs may not be at the top of everyone’s to-do list, the latest patch gives those smooth-talking rogues more opportunities to work their magic.
Per The Old Republic‘s official blog, Update 7.4.1 has earned the subtitle “Date Night” given that it expands on how players can interact with whichever NPC they opted to romance in their respective playthrough. At launch, Date Night Companion Missions will be available for four characters: SIS agent Theron Shan, Sith Lord Lana Beniko, Zakuulan captain Koth Vortena, and former Eternal Emperor Arcann. Each of the aforementioned partners has a unique quest and scene that can be unlocked if a player’s character is in a romantic relationship with them and the story doesn’t require them to be in a specific location.

What Do Date Night Companion Missions Involve?
Bioware has yet to share many details on the Date Night Companion Missions but based on the descriptions, players will be able to engage in activities like drinking at a cantina or playing a game of Dejarik. It’s worth noting that these Date Nights won’t have much in the way of interactivity given that they are “fully-voiced, cinematic-only scenes” so don’t expect any kind of mechanical additions to The Old Republic‘s romance system. While only four characters’ Date Night missions are included in Update 7.4.1, the team is hoping to add 1-2 more per Galactic Season.
Is Star Wars: The Old Republic Worth Playing?
Despite its age, Star Wars: The Old Republic is revered amongst the franchise’s fanbase for providing one of the most in-depth, detailed looks at the galaxy as it existed before what was shown in The Prequel Trilogy. The community is still alive and well, pushed ever onward by consistent content updates that continue to grow the game and weave an expansive narrative that follows the Jedi and Sith as they fight for control of The Republic. It may seem daunting to begin playing the gigantic MMO, but a free trial is available on Steam for those who fancy taking a stab at it.
