Believe it or not, Kimberly Hart’s best costume didn’t come from her time with the Power Rangers. The former Pink Ranger’s best costume arrives during her post-Ranger life. The series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink offers readers insight into her life after leaving the team during the show’s second season, after giving her powers to Kat.
Kimberly finds herself in the Netherlands to continue her career as a gymnast in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink #1 by Brenden Fletcher, Kelly Thompson, Daniele Di Nicuolo, Sarah Stern, and Ed Dukeshire. When danger unexpectedly strikes, Kimberly doesn’t have her Ranger powers, suit, or weapons — but she compensates in the best way possible.
Kimberly equips a nightstick, combat boots, fingerless gloves, a crossbow, kick pads, a shoulder pad, and some loose change she can re-purpose into weaponry. “Eat your heart out, Mad Max,” she narrates after capping off her outfit with a leather jacket.
Kimberly Suits Up Without Her Ranger Powers
During the Pan Global Games, Kimberly’s mom no-shows Kimberly’s gymnastics competition, and she isn’t responding to voicemails. Kimberly knows something’s wrong, and is later proven right when she discovers her mom has been kidnapped by monsters that have overtaken a village in France. Playing things smart, knowing she doesn’t have any powers, she instead suits up using practical items she finds in her mother and stepfather’s home.
Kimberly suits up because she hears a suspicious banging noise in the distance. Instead of rushing into danger, she understands she could be walking into a trap and opts to prepare first. “Be prepared. That’s a boy scout motto or something … I’m sure I’ve heard Billy say that before,” she tells herself. It’s a sign that this is not only a smarter, more mature Kimberly who’s learned from her past as a Pink Ranger, but she’s also learned from her former Ranger mates (assuming, of course, that she did learn that phrase from Billy).
This New Pink Ranger Get-Up Would Make “Mad Max” Jealous
By the same sword, this scene also shows how well Kimberly can improvise at a moment’s notice. For what few resources she has as a civilian now, she crafts a perfectly competent combat outfit. Later on, readers see just how useful all the items prove to be. Even the loose change is useful, as she uses it to blind one of the creatures before taking them out completely. As the franchise motto goes, “Once a Ranger, always a Ranger.” Kimberly proves this thoroughly by being just as effective of a fighter without her Power Rangers powers as she was with them.
