As audiences continue to wait for word on when the show will return, Robert Kirkman has an exciting Invincible season 2 update. The animated Prime Video series is an adaptation of Kirkman’s graphic novels centered on the titular teenager who struggles with his sudden transformation into a superhero under the tutelage of his father, Omni-Man, only to learn of his dark secrets. Steven Yeun leads the ensemble voice cast of Invincible alongside Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons, Gillian Jacobs, Zazie Beetz, Andrew Rannells and Jason Mantzoukas, and was swiftly renewed for two seasons after season 1’s success.
While recently speaking with Collider to discuss his work on the horror-comedy Renfield, Robert Kirkman offered an update on the long-awaited Invincible season 2. The series creator shared some exciting insight about how far along production is on the next chapter of the series and jokingly expressing his desire for fans to stop asking him about it. See what Kirkman said below:
It’s going great. I’m seeing full animation now, and we’re getting music and stuff put into it, and it’s coming along really great. And I can’t wait for people to finally see it so that they stop asking me about it.
Every Invincible Season 2 Update Shared Thus Far
Since its conclusion in early 2021, the cast and crew behind the show have offered a variety of updates on Invincible season 2, with both Yeun and Simmons revealing in early 2022 that they had yet to return to the recording booth, but were expected to do so in the near future. Around the same time, showrunner Simon Racioppa explained the delay as stemming from the pandemic and from the writer’s room building both seasons 2 and 3.
While the creatives behind the show have tried to remain largely positive in their updates shared to the public, the Invincible marketing team has taken a similar route to that of The Boys by poking fun at audiences about the show’s future. Between releasing videos of Yeun in the recording booth to a faux trailer of Yeun’s Invincible and Seth Rogen’s Allen the Alien having a tense conversation about the show’s return, they’ve been sure to keep fans of the show on edge for when it will come back.
Though Kirkman’s latest Invincible season 2 update may not directly reveal how close to wrapping production they are, the assurance that he’s seeing “full animation” and that music is being put to the episodes does indicate it’s nearly complete. Additionally, with a late 2023 release window currently set for the show’s return, it would make sense for it to not only wrap soon, but for audiences to get a proper look at the next chapter in the coming months.
