Channing Tatum’s $70 Million ‘Indiana Jones’ Replacement Raids Global Streaming Charts

Channing Tatum has blown up in popularity over the last year thanks to his role as Gambit, but before he ever played the card-dealing kinetic mutant, he starred in an Indiana Jones dupe that’s having a moment on streaming. In 2022, Tatum teamed up with Sandra Bullock and Brad Pitt for The Lost City, the action-adventure movie following a novelist and a cover model who get caught up in a kidnapping scheme that lands them in the middle of a dangerous jungle. The Lost City is streaming on Paramount+ globally, where it has pushed into the top 10 in more than 15 countries around the world.

The Lost City is also streaming on Paramount+ in America, where Hulu subscribers also have the chance to watch the film. It was exceptionally well-liked upon its release, leading to it holding a Certified Fresh 78% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It also earned a strong 82% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. The Lost City, which immediately drew comparisons to Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones movies upon release, also performed well at the box office. It grossed nearly $200 million against a relatively modest $68 million budget. It more than tripled its break-even point for Paramount.

Oren Uziel, Dana Fox, Seth Gordon, and Adam and Aaron Nee wrote the script for The Lost City, and the Nee brothers also directed the film. It’s easily their most famous work to this day. In addition to Tatum, Bullock, and Pitt, The Lost City also features other stars like Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers), and Oscar Nuñez (The Office).

Channing Tatum’s Future at Marvel Is Bright

Channing Tatum had been rumored to star in a standalone Gambit movie until it was canned several years back, but he found redemption last year. He had a sizable role as the Cajun in Deadpool & Wolverine, but it’s far from the end of the line for him. Fans were stunned earlier this year when the cast of Avengers: Doomsday was announced via a string of chairs, and Tatum’s name was on one of them. He’s since confirmed his role in the project, which wrapped filming last month, but he’s declined to share any major details. There are also whispers that he’ll return as Gambit in another MCU project. Unfortunately, there have been no concrete developments on this front.
