Summary
- Edwina desired a love match in Bridgerton season 2, but things took a turn when Anthony Bridgerton began courting her.
- Edwina doesn’t marry Prince Friedrich in the novels, but her fate could change in future Bridgerton seasons.
- With Edwina not appearing in season 3, her love story may still unfold with Prince Friedrich in a potential future season.
Bridgerton season 2 named Edwina Sharma as the season’s diamond, and saw Queen Charlotte suggest her nephew Prince Friedrich to her as a match, but who does Edwina marry? Edwina, along with older sister Kate and mother Lady Mary, returned to England from India to find Edwina a husband to marry. Edwina craved a love match above all else in season 2, although she got a bit sidetracked once Anthony Bridgerton began courting her. Things didn’t exactly work out the way she had hoped. It’s possible Bridgerton season 3 could change Edwina’s fate for the better.
Edwina’s season 2 story ended with her realizing the truth about Kate and Anthony’s feelings for each other. While she was upset the truth was kept from her, Edwina grew a lot from the experience. Now that Kate and Anthony are happily married, Edwina no longer has to worry about marrying a rich nobleman to secure her family’s financial future. Considering Edwina formed an intriguing and genuine bond with Queen Charlotte, the monarch’s attempts to set up Edwina and Prince Friedrich make a lot of sense.
Bridgerton’s 10 Romances, Ranked From Worst To Best
While Bridgerton’s romances are what made the Netflix hit famous, not every couple can be as beloved as Simon and Daphne or George and Charlotte.
Edwina Doesn’t Marry Prince Friedrich In The Bridgerton Novels
Prince Friedrich Is Created For The Netflix Series
Edwina Sharma getting a happily ever after is something that happens in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton novels. Edwina does not, however, marry Prince Friedrich in the novels. Edwina cannot marry Prince Friedrich in the novels because his character only appears in the Netflix Bridgerton series. That doesn’t mean happy endings cannot change in the Netflix series.
In the books, Edwina ends up marrying Mr. Bagwell, a scholar and the second son in his family. He doesn’t come from as much money as the Bridgertons, but Edwina quite enjoys Mr. Bagwell’s company. They have a lot in common, enjoying time inside reading and discussing intellectual subjects. Edwina falls in love with Mr. Bagwell, fulfilling her desire for a love match.
Edwina and Mr. Bagwell have some time together in The Viscount Who Loved Me, the novel focused on Anthony and Kate, and the pair appear together again years later to celebrate Anthony’s 39th birthday. They’re still happy and in love, which is lovely for Edwina, who deserves the best.

Could the Bridgerton universe be further expanded by a second season of the Queen Charlotte spin-off? Here’s everything we know so far.
Edwina And Prince Friedrich May Not Marry In Season 3 Of Bridgerton Either
Edwina Is Unlikely To Appear In Season 3 Because Of Scheduling
Bridgerton has changed enough from the source material, however, that Mr. Bagwell may not appear in the series going forward. Prince Friedrich made quite an impression during Bridgerton season 1, and it’s possible he could reappear in a future season of Bridgerton to meet and court Edwina. It would be a good way to keep Edwina on the show and for viewers to watch her find someone who will surely fall in love with her in the genuine way she would want.
Edwina marrying Prince Friedrich would also bring the royal back to Bridgerton in a way that would give him a happy ending. Friedrich got the short end of the stick in season 1 because Daphne married Simon while he was courting her. Surely he and Edwina can bond about not being lucky in love and botched relationships in a future Bridgerton season.
It’s unlikely Bridgerton season 2 would bring up Prince Friedrich as a potential match for Edwina if there wasn’t going to be any follow-through on the idea. Season 2 introduced Theo as a love interest for Eloise, which was a change from the books as well, so it is within the realm of possibility that Edwina and Prince Friedrich will find each other in Bridgerton.
It is, unlikely, however, that Edwina will marry the prince in Bridgerton season 3. Charithra Chandran confirmed (via The Indian Express) that she would not be appearing as Edwina in season 3 of Bridgerton, though she was filming a new movie during the same time that the rest of the cast was working on the new season.
Season 3 of Bridgerton is set to focus on the relationship between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, so the Sharma sisters wouldn’t be a major focus. Edwina’s sister Kate, as the new wife to Anthony Bridgerton, is confirmed to appear. With Kate as a part of the Bridgerton family, it’s still possible that her sister and mother could appear in future seasons of the series, just not season 3.
The remainder of the novels in the Bridgerton series focus on the relationships of each of the Bridgerton siblings, and with the Sharma siblings now their extended family, there is always the potential for their return in Bridgerton’s future.
