Diego Luna discusses the time jumps in Andor season 2 and how Cassian Andor will grow into a man willing to sacrifice his life for the Rebellion. Cassian Andor was first introduced in Rogue One as a spy for the Rebellion, willing to do whatever it takes to bring down the Empire. The first season of Andor explores his origins and why he decides to join the Rebellion.
Screen Rant caught up with Luna after the Lucasfilm Showcase panel at Star Wars Celebration to talk about Andor season 2. Luna teased time jumps that will cover the four years leading up to Rogue One. He also discusses how much Cassian still needs to grow to become the character first introduced in Rogue One. Check out Luna’s full quote below:
Diego Luna: He’s ready to join, but he doesn’t know what he’s getting into. He doesn’t speak the language. He has to learn a new language; he has to understand many things. He has to witness and meet some people that are going to be crucial in shaping him to become the man that is willing to sacrifice everything for the Rebellion.
There’s still a lot that needs to happen, and it’s gonna be exciting. This structure is quite cool. It’s four blocks, and each block is one year. But between each block, there’s a time just. It’ll be challenging for audiences in a good way, and maybe it’ll be exciting and different from season 1.
How Cassian Andor Will Need To Grow In Andor Season 2
In the first season of Andor, Cassian was a loner willing to do what was necessary to survive. He was on the run from the Empire, briefly worked for the Rebellion as a mercenary, and spent time in an Imperial prison. By the end of the season, after the death of his adopted mother, he decided to join the Rebellion. The second season of Andor will follow the titular hero as he becomes a key member of the Rebellion.
Cassian has shown deftness as a pilot, thief, and scavenger. He is able to blend in and strategize when necessary, but he has never been a part of an organized group like the Rebellion. He will need to learn how to work within the Rebellion’s missions and expectations. He will also need to learn how to be an effective spy, gathering the necessary intelligence without blowing his cover. The second season of Andor can give an in-depth look into the Rebellion’s spy network.
The second season will cover the four years leading up to Rogue One, likely showing his training and how he will evolve to become a skilled Rebel spy. It could also explore the difficult decisions he will need to make to help the Rebellion and what actions will leave him with the immense guilt that led to his sacrifice in Rogue One. In Andor’s first season, Cassian Andor was selfish, putting others in danger, and caring only about himself and a select few, but he began to grow to care about a larger cause. This is the first step to his being willing to give his life to help free the galaxy from the Empire.
