Best Streaming TV Deals for October 2022

0

The streaming TV marketplace is as competitive as ever in 2022.

Whether you’re looking for live TV or premium video-on-demand content, there are more options available than you could possibly have time to watch in one month — and certainly more fees than you and your wallet want to fork over.

So how do you get the best bang for your buck? Often it requires hunting down the best promotional offers to get the content you want below the retail price.

These deals can come in the form of a temporary promotion, a bundling discount or even as a free perk from a wireless phone subscription.

I cover streaming TV for Team Clark, so I’m constantly monitoring the market for the best offerings. In this article, I’ll update you on the latest money-saving streaming TV deals.

These deals may be temporary, so move fast if you see one you like. I’ll try to keep the offers as fresh as possible by updating them each month so that you don’t run into a deal that’s no longer available.

Best Streaming TV Deals Right Now

Team Clark has compiled this list to help you save money on your streaming TV bill. This list will change frequently as offers come and go. The offers are not listed in any particular order, and we have not received any outside influence on our selections. Live TV Streamers Offered Temporary Price Reprieve

If you’re in the market for a live TV streaming subscription, look for temporary price reductions. Sometimes companies use them to lure new customers instead of offering a free trial.

Here are some deals I found during a recent sweep of live TV streaming services:

  • Hulu + Live TV offers $20 off per month for your first three months of service. That’s a total of $60 in potential savings. Deal to expire on October 5, per the fine print.
  • Sling TV offers half off your first month of service. That can save you as much as $25 if you opt for the popular Orange + Blue package.
  • DIRECTV STREAM offers $20 off per month for your first two months of service. That’s a total of $40 in potential savings. Deal to expire on October 4, per the fine print. If you opt into the Choice or Ultimate packages, you also get three months of HBO Max, SHOWTIME, STARZ, Cinemax® and EPIX for free.
  • YouTube TV offers $10 off per month for your first three months of service. That’s a total of $30 in savings.

Wireless Phone Services Offer Free or Discounted Streaming

You might be surprised to learn that some of the best discounts or freebies for streaming TV deals come courtesy of wireless phone providers.

Major players in the cell phone space, including Verizon and T-Mobile, have some pretty good deals for their customers. In a shifting market that features great prices from discount cell service providers, the big-name brands are adding perceived value to their monthly pricing by adding benefits like free streaming subscriptions.

With an assist from Team Clark’s Dallas, who is our site’s wireless phone plan expert, here are some of the good streaming perks out there:

  • T-Mobile customers have quite a few streaming TV deals at their disposal. Magenta Max plan customers get Apple TV+ for free, and select plans also include complimentary Netflix access and a free year of Paramount+. Customers also may be eligible to get discounts on live TV services YouTube TV and Philo. You can explore T-Mobile’s streaming TV deals here.
  • Verizon offers The Disney Bundle for free to select wireless customers. You can see if your plan qualifies here. If you have an iPhone through Verizon, you may also qualify for free Apple TV+ through an Apple One Unlimited subscription.
  • Total Wireless by Verizon offers free Disney+ to its top tier Unlimited subscription customers.

The Disney Bundle Continues To Help People Save

While a price hike looms, the Disney Bundle remains a great way to get three popular streaming TV services at a discount.

The Disney Bundle includes the on-demand, ad-supported version of Hulu, as well as Disney+ and ESPN+, for just $13.99 per month. They would cost around $25 per month total if you paid for each as a standalone subscription.

Hulu + Live TV subscribers now receive the Disney Bundle as part of their subscriptions.

Select Verizon customers may also receive complimentary access to the Disney Bundle.

Get Paramount+ for Free Via Walmart+

In an effort to boost the value of its shopping subscription service, Walmart is now offering Walmart+ subscribers a free Paramount+ Essentials subscription as one of its perks.

Walmart+ is $98 for an annual subscription. The Essentials plan, which is Paramount’s ad-supported tier, has a retail price of $4.99 per month or $49 per year. That’s a pretty good value for people who were already paying for at least one of those services.

Paramount+ provides more details on redeeming this offer here.

Free Apple TV+ When You Purchase Select Apple Products

If you decided to buy the latest iPhone or a new MacBook, you may have also gotten free access to Apple TV+.

The current promotion is for three free months for new customers.

You’ll find original shows like Ted Lasso and Severance as well as a growing library of live sports that includes both Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer.

Xfinity Internet Customers Enjoy Free Peacock Premium

If you have Xfinity for home internet or your cable service, you may be eligible for a free Peacock Premium subscription.

Peacock recently ran a promotion that gave new users the chance to subscribe to Premium for a year for just $19.99. That promotion ended on September 30, 2022.

Peacock does have a free tier, but you’ll need a Premium- or Plus-level subscription to access popular programming such as the live feed of NBC’s Sunday Night Football and the full library of popular TV shows Yellowstone and The Office.

Prime Video Is Included With an Amazon Prime Subscription

You may pay for Amazon Prime to get your favorite products delivered to your doorstep, but that subscription also has streaming TV value.

Paying for Amazon Prime also gets you access to the Prime Video collection, which includes popular original TV shows including Jack Ryan, Reacher and The Terminal List, as well as a large collection of movies.

Football fans also will benefit from this subscription, as Prime Video became the exclusive home of Thursday Night Football beginning with the 2022 NFL season.

If you’re paying the $139 annual fee for Amazon Prime, this is a nice bonus.

Remember: Free Streaming TV Is Still Free

Team Clark wouldn’t be doing its job in helping you save more and spend less if we didn’t at least include a pitch here for taking advantage of the free options on the market.

Money expert Clark Howard is a huge fan of the emerging free streaming TV options, soI figured I’d point out a few that you might want to try.

“People are really hurting their wallets by signing up for one streaming product after another and after another,” Clark says. “And by the time you’re done, you could be subscribing to enough things that you would never be able to watch all the video content this is available. There are probably several of these that you subscribe to that you don’t get around to watching, but you’re paying for them each month.”

Consider trying Pluto TV, Tubi and The Roku Channel as you dip your toes into the free streaming TV market.

Oh, and if you’re looking for a way to watch your local channels for free, you can likely do that with the help of an antenna.

Do you have a money-saving tip for streaming TV consumers? We’d love to hear about it in the Clark.com community!
