The Carolina Panthers secured a Week 7 win over the New York Jets, but it came at a significant cost with quarterback Bryce Young suffering a high ankle sprain.
Despite the injury, head coach Dave Canales wouldn’t rule out Young for Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
“Just look at him each day, test the ankle in different ways to see if we can’t get him back out there on Wednesday in someway shape or form,” Canales added via ESPN. “I saw him this morning, talked to him, and he’s like, ‘Let’s push this thing. Let’s see what we’ve got.’
“So we’re going to try to take that approach with it. … But again, we’re going to have to go through some milestones with our return to play with our training staff.”
Although he didn’t go as far as labeling Young, he also didn’t say that his quarterback could miss multiple games. A high ankle sprain is an injury that forces players to sit out between two to four weeks.
If Young misses time, backup Andy Dalton will step in to fill the void. Dalton finished the win over the Jets by completing 4-of-7 passes for 60 yards, but didn’t guide the team on a scoring drive.

The veteran quarterback has plenty of experience as a starter that could provide the Panthers with stability under center. Dalton served as the starter last year before Young took over his position after a thumb injury from a car accident.
Carolina sits at a 4-3 record, marking the first time being over .500 at this point in the season since 2019.
