Toddler fatally struck by pickup truck driver in Long Island driveway

A toddler was fatally struck by a pickup truck driver in a driveway on Long Island, police said Saturday.

Cops did not release the tot’s age or gender but online news outlet Greater Long Island identified the victim as a 2-year-old boy.

Officers responded to the home on Maureen Drive in Mount Sinai around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Suffolk County police said. They found the injured toddler, who was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital. The toddler was pronounced dead at the facility.

The victim’s 44-year-old mother and 43-year-old father were on the scene, cops said. The tot was struck by a Ram 1500 pickup truck, according to police. The vehicle was later seen being towed from the scene.

It was at least the second case of a toddler being struck and killed by a vehicle on Long Island this year.

Back in August, a 2-year-old boy was killed in a parking lot at Belmont Lake State Park in North Babylon.

The driver, who was behind the wheel of an Acura sedan, called 911 and remained on the scene. Investigators deemed the toddler’s death a tragic accident and criminal charges were not filed.
