Former NFL player Robert Quinn arrested for alleged asault

Former NFL defensive end Robert Quinn was arrested Friday morning in South Carolina, after multiple hit-and-run incidents caused significant property damage and ended in a reported assault.

Quinn turned himself in to authorities in Summersville, a city roughly 25 miles northwest of Charleston, reports WCSC.

He now faces multiple charges, including third-degree assault and battery, hit-and-run with property damage, and four counts of leaving the scene after a traffic incident.

The 33-year-old NFL free agent — who played for both the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles last season — was driving Tuesday night when he reportedly crashed into four cars, a community gate and a light post.

Some neighbors in the Carrington Chase community, where the incident occurred, witnessed the damage occur. One even spoke to Quinn before he allegedly fled the scene, in an interaction that likely led to the assault charge.

“He was very belligerent,” said witness Lisa Ball, who was reportedly sitting in her car when she was hit by Quinn. “He kept saying, ‘Oh don’t worry about it, I’ll buy you new cars, I’ll buy you a new car, let’s go to the dealership.’”

“I told him to get off my property and he proceeded to put his hands on me and slap me not once but twice,” she added.

Quinn then reportedly got back into his Ford F-150, hit another vehicle, and fled the scene on foot.

Authorities were called to the area of the hit-and-runs on Tuesday night and discovered the damaged truck belonging to Quinn, reports TMZ. According to police documents, they also found a “partially empty bottle” of Crown Royal Apple whiskey in the passenger side of the vehicle.

After turning himself in on Friday, Quinn attended a bond hearing at Summerville Municipal Court. According to WCSC, he was granted bonds for the following amounts:

  • Hit and run with someone in the vehicle: $5,000
  • Four hit-and-runs that were unintended: $232.50 each
  • Striking a highway fixture: $155
  • Assault and battery 3rd degree: $1,087.50

Quinn was previously involved in a 2012 crash in Missouri, for which he was charged with driving while intoxicated. Quinn ultimately pleaded guilty to failure to exercise a high degree of care and paid a fine of just $277.
