3 killed, 1 hospitalized in explosion at Ohio auto repair shop

Three people were killed and one was hospitalized Tuesday in an explosion at an Ohio auto repair shop.

“An explosion and a fire” was reported at Jimbo’s Auto Repair in Hillsboro, in Highland County, around 4 p.m. Tuesday, Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District said.

“It definitely did rock and shake the area,” chief David Manning told WKRC.

While there was no damage to surrounding structures, witnesses reported feeling the blast from blocks away.

The injured person was in stable condition, Manning said. He added it was likely the deceased persons worked at the shop, according to WLWT.

A photo taken by a witness and posted on social media showed flames and a thick plume of black smoke rising from the shop.

The fire took several hours to fully extinguish.

The names of the victims have not been released and the cause of the explosion is being investigated by the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office, according to local newspaper Highland County Press.

The shop is located about 55 miles east of Cincinnati.
