2 killed, 4 wounded in shooting at Arkansas party, suspect dead

Two people were killed and four wounded by a gunman at a party in Arkansas early Sunday, police said.

The suspected shooter was also found dead following the violence in downtown Jonesboro, the local police department said in a Facebook post.

Shots rang out at the private party shortly before 5 a.m., the Jonesboro Police Department said. Two people, identified only as a male and a female, were killed in the shooting. Both victims knew the shooter, according to police.

Four people were wounded in the gunfire. One was a woman who knew the shooter, according to police. The other three were bystanders who had “no connection to the suspect,” cops said. Several of the victims were transported to a local hospital in personal vehicles before officers arrived.

“Police believe there is no active threat to the community,” Jonesboro police wrote on Facebook. “This is still an ongoing investigation.”

None of the victims have been publicly identified and no information about the suspect was released.

The Sunday morning incident was the 74th mass shooting of the year in the U.S., according to the Gun Violence Archive. The archive classifies a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more people are shot, not including the attacker.

Officials have not publicly speculated on any motive for the shooting.
