A 1-month-old girl was in critical condition Tuesday night following a hit-and-run crash in the Bronx, according to police.
The driver of a black sedan smashed into a Hyundai SUV on the Bruckner Expressway underneath the Castle Hill Ave. overpass at 6:40 p.m., cop sources said.
The SUV flipped and came to rest upside down beneath the overpass, while the driver of the sedan and a passenger fled on foot off the expressway, sources said.
Rescuers pulled the infant girl from the Hyundai in respiratory arrestand paramedics rushed the child to Jacobi Hospital for treatment, according to law enforcement sources.
The little victim’s family members poured into Jacobi Hospital, where they anxiously awaited updates.
“We’re talking to [doctors] upstairs right now,” Nikia McCarter, the child’s aunt, told the Daily News. “This is a serious situation involving a newborn. We’re still waiting for more information.”
“We are grieving,” she added.
Police employed K9 units in their continuing search for the fleeing suspects, and no arrests have been made, according to sources.
