Metroid Prime 4: Beyond breaks new ground for Nintendo, offering Performance and Quality modes with support for up to 120 FPS (frames per second) gameplay. It’s quite impressive, and has us wondering what Nintendo games could get these features next.
Question: Shack Chat: Which Nintendo game franchise do you want to get 120 FPS performance next?
Star Fox – Ozzie Mejia, Senior Dogfighter
Man, poor Star Fox, just constantly getting the shaft from Nintendo. Every game under the sun got a game on Nintendo Switch, but there was no (official) Star Fox game. Heck, I played Starlink: Battle for Atlas just to get a taste of Fox and company.
With that said, a 120fps Star Fox game would be incredible. Take advantage of the openness of space, allow for breakneck speed, whether it’s trying to outfly an obstacle or outmaneuver Fox’s Star Wolf rivals. It’ll even make up for the swing-and-a-miss that was Star Fox Zero.
Xenoblade Chronicles X – TJ Denzer, Big fan of scary alien worlds
You know, when Nintendo was touting all of the games it was about to upgrade for the Nintendo Switch 2, I was highly surprised to not find Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on the list. That game looked ripe for a Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade. I didn’t expect crazy things, but it looked like Xenoblade Chronicles X at least deserved an upscale and a 60 FPS mode.
I think that game is extremely beautiful for mostly being an upgrade of a Wii U game, but I think it’s also still ripe to get just a little bit of an extra nudge towards even greater quality on the Switch 2. If Nintendo ever goes for it, I’ll just have to make another character, and I most certainly would.
F-Zero – Asif Khan, Once again asking Nintendo to make a new F-Zero game
Yes, I sound like a broken record, but Nintendo should use the F-Zero franchise as a vehicle to showcase the power of the Nintendo Switch 2. 120 FPS gameplay shines in a racing game environment, and F-Zero pilots operate at extremely high speeds. On the back of the success of F-Zero 99, it is finally time for the best Nintendo racing IP to shine once more. It’s time for F-Zero to return in 4K 60 FPS with a 1080p 120 FPS option. Just like F-Zero X showcased 60 FPS gameplay back on the N64, the franchise can be a highlight of the Switch 2 generation’s 120 FPS capabilities. Use the boost power, Nintendo.
Pokemon – Donovan Erskine, Pokemon Master
Pokemon Legends: Z-A launched supports 60 FPS gameplay on the Switch 2 and it’s beautiful. But… What if we doubled it? Z-A proved that high performance can make up for a lot of visual shortcomings and having a game in 120 FPS would be incredibly crispy. It would make the 1,000+ existing Pokemon feel “new” again, and would be an excellent way to make the Generation 10 games feel like a generational leap.
Too Many to choose from!- Steve Tyminski, Gotta run fast!

Which Nintendo game franchise do I want to get 120 FPS performance next? I would love to see Mario Kart running at 120 FPS. It would really show how fast the game could be. I would also love to see a Legend of Zelda game run at 120 FPS too. The Legend of Zelda series is always gorgeous and running at that speed could really show off how lovely it could look. I could also say Pokemon getting that boost would really help the game. Seeing as how Pokemon games lately don’t run as smoothly as they should, setting the bar to start at 120 FPS would allow those early issues to smooth themselves out. Finally, as a fun one, Rad Racer getting a new game is a shot in the dark but hey, if it’s new, then let it run at 120 FPS, right? If we got a new Snow Brothers game, then we can get a new Rad Racer.
Those are the Nintendo games we’d most like to see get the 120 FPS treatment. What say you? Let us know in the Chatty!
