Even two years on, Starbreeze Studios seems intent on trying to breathe new life in Payday 3. In the meantime, it’s handed the reins for Payday 2 over to Sidetrack Games, who are by all accounts doing a great job of continuing to support the classic. But my attention is elsewhere. I’ve been getting my heist fix from One-Armed Robber, a free Steam game with a unique twist on the format. It’s got a beautiful physicality to the action that really sells the frantic feeling of executing a high-stakes mission, and it just got a new location DLC alongside another big update including a whole heap of explosives and throwables.
The core concept of One-Armed Robber is pretty self-explanatory, but the way being forced to do everything with just a single hand impacts gameplay makes it one of the most enjoyable FPS games I’ve played in some time. On top of that limitation, all your actions are impacted by the physics engine, lending real weight to proceedings.
Each stack of cash must be carefully dumped into your carry bag, with your rifle placed precariously on top as you carry it out to the extraction car. Even the smallest decisions become big choices, forcing you to commit to every move – and only further enhancing the value of teaming up in co-op.
Developer Duhndal has been consistently rolling out new updates and additional map packs over the two years since One-Armed Robber first released, so if you’ve never played it (or haven’t been back for some time) there’s a whole heap to dig into. Landing just in time for the holidays, the Harbor Heist will be the biggest test of your skills yet, so you’ll want to gear up appropriately.
“A new shipment of missile-guidance chips and military equipment from Rodman has just arrived in the shipping yard,” Duhndal teases. Unfortunately, you’ll need to move fast to take advantage of this opportunity, which means moving out in the middle of a nighttime thunderstorm. Naturally, Rodman’s security will be particularly tight – every container is linked to an alarm system, and you’ll find password-controlled laser grids inside each one as backup.
Fortunately, there’s some fresh equipment to help you out. Fragmentation Grenades are a familiar favorite – pull the pin and throw it, and watch things go boom. Distraction Grenades are ideal for moving pesky guards out of your way non-lethally, and will keep them busy for up to 30 seconds. If it’s electronics that are the problem, EMP Grenades can halt security cameras, lasers, and the countdown on guard phones for 30 seconds.
Alongside these throwables, you’ll spot new explosive gas canisters scattered across various locations. They’re most prominent in the Harbor Heist, but you’ll also encounter them elsewhere if you’re looking to go loud. Rounding out the festivities is a new Santa outfit, available to grab until Thursday December 25.
The One-Armed Robber update is live now, and the Harbor Heist map is available to purchase. All DLC maps are 25% off until Monday January 5, 2026 as part of the Steam Winter sale, costing just 900 Heist Coins each. Heist Coins start at $4.99 / £3.99 for 1,500. There’s already a whole heap of content available for free in the base game, so I’m very happy to support the team with a few bucks for the addon packs. Grab a crew and clear out Rodman’s warehouses – they won’t know what hit them.
