Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) kept its grip on the top two streaming programs for the week, but yet another new entrant to the rankings is a testament to the increasing competition for streaming eyeballs.
Outer Banks and Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal remained the top two shows in streaming-land, with 2.214B minutes and 1.084B minutes streamed respectively, just ahead of HBO Max (WBD) hit The Last of Us, with 1.011B minutes, according to Nielsen’s most recent weekly streaming ratings (for Feb. 27-March 5).
But Paramount+ (NASDAQ:PARA) (NASDAQ:PARAA) is a newcomer to the streaming providers list, and it shared the fourth-place program, NCIS (826M minutes) with Netflix (NFLX).
Disney+ (NYSE:DIS) rolled out a new season of The Mandalorian, and the show — which was an instrumental early success after Disney launched its direct-to-consumer service — is still drawing viewers, its 823M minutes good enough for fifth place on the overall chart.
Rounding out the list were No. 6, We Have a Ghost (NFLX), 807M minutes; No. 7, CoComelon (NFLX), 765M minutes; No. 8, Perfect Match (NFLX), 744M minutes; No. 9, Bluey (DIS), 736M minutes; and No. 10, South Park (WBD), 687M minutes.
Outer Banks and Murdaugh Murders led the original-programs chart as well, but there’s where new entry Paramount (PARA) (PARAA) made another splash, with its 1923 landing at No. 6 with 560M minutes streamed for the week. Also notable on that chart was one of Netflix’s (NFLX) rare steps into live programming — Chris Rock: Selective Outrage was the ninth-most-streamed original program, with 418M minutes despite appearing for just over a day of the measurement week.
The Last of Us (WBD) led acquired programs, and along with South Park, HBO Max placed another show in the list: The Big Bang Theory was No. 8 with 527M minutes.
And the movies list once again was dominated by Netflix (NFLX) and Disney (DIS), though Peacock (CMCSA) landed here as well: It shared No. 2 movie R.I.P.D. with Netflix (492M minutes), and its M3GAN was still scaring up customers at No. 8 with 242M minutes.
(Nielsen streaming ratings now incorporate viewing from eight major streamers: Amazon Prime Video (AMZN), Apple TV+ (AAPL), Disney+ (DIS), HBO Max (WBD), Hulu (DIS) (CMCSA), Netflix (NFLX), Paramount+ (PARA) (PARAA) and Peacock (CMCSA).)
