HBO Max’s acclaimed Spanish black comedy series Rage has officially been renewed for a second season. This comes nearly five months after the show made its debut on HBO Max, where it became the streaming platform’s most-watched series in Spain, second only to House of the Dragon and The Last of Us.
What do we know about HBO Max’s Rage Season 2?
Rage Season 2 will be led by a new ensemble cast. However, some of the stars from the first installment are also expected to return. At the moment, it’s still unknown which of the Season 1 cast would be reprising their roles. The next installment is currently slated to premiere sometime in 2026.
“I think Rage has a very authentic perspective, and it was riskier and more honest to offer new ideas so that the story could continue with the same strength. Even so, I don’t want to lose some of the most beloved characters from the first season,” creator Félix Sabroso said in a statement.
The black comedy series is created and directed by Sabroso, with Producciones Mandarina serving as its producer. Season 1 starred Carmen Machi, Candela Peña, Cecilia Roth, Nathalie Poza, and Pilar Castro. For their leading performance, the acclaimed cast won a special jury prize at the European Rose d’Or Awards. Executive producers were Alberto Carullo, Antonio Trashorras, David Ocaña, and José María Caro for HBO Max, along with Santi Botello and Tedy Villalba Jr. for Producciones Mandarina.
“The show is a contemporary portrait of five women: five female characters who lead this surprising, realistic, and intense drama,” reads the official synopsis.”Five women willing to do anything in extreme situations, such as extortion, oppression, deception, exclusion, or manipulation in a single shared, contemporary universe, articulated around five conflicts that will unfold like a butterfly effect, one as a consequence of the other. Until they reach a shared catharsis. A kaleidoscopic portrait of the current social moment with high doses of irony and humor.”
