Did Vin Diesel Just Confirm the Return of His $250 Million Beloved Sci-Fi Franchise?

Vin Diesel will always be famous for playing Dom Toretto in the Fast & Furious movies, but before he ever suited up to defend his family, he starred in a sci-fi franchise that may be coming back from the dead. Diesel has been playing Richard B. Riddick for more than 20 years, dating back to his first role in The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black, the 2000 TV movie. Diesel then played the character several times on the big screen, including in The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) and Riddick (2013), but there was doubt that the franchise would ever return, despite concrete plans.

There were reports that Diesel was returning to lead a new Riddick sequel, Furya, but updates about the film have been silent since last summer, when it was confirmed to be in production. Diesel had seemingly shifted his focus to Fast X: Part 2, which he’s been providing consistent updates for on his personal social media. However, Diesel took to Instagram over the weekend to post a photo of himself in a Riddick shirt, reminiscing on his time in the franchise with the caption, “Three films, two video games… and even an anime… Grateful to be a part of the Riddick universe.”

This has sparked speculation that Riddick is indeed coming back to the big screen and that Furya isn’t dead after all. However, some fans have taken it more pessimistically, assuming that he’s bidding the franchise goodbye. It’s impossible to tell with Diesel, who has a history of posting ominously about projects he’s attached to. Only time will tell what the future of the Riddick franchise holds, and if Furya will ever make it to the big screen.

What’s Going On With ‘Fast X: Part 2’?

There has been a rollercoaster of updates regarding the eleventh and final Fast & Furious movie this year. It was scheduled to begin production over the summer, but fans were shocked when Jason Momoa and Ludacris said just in the last few months that they hadn’t even read a script. This concern was further compounded by a troubling report that Universal was considering canceling the movie altogether if the budget wasn’t brought down by over $100 million. However, Diesel posted a video of himself with Universal executive Michael Moses, where the duo agrees they’ve figured out the specifics and Fast X: Part 2 is ready to move forward.

Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the Riddick franchise.
