‘Blade’ Star Denies Rumors They’ve Been Replaced on Marvel’s Most Troubled Project

Mia Goth has confirmed she’s still attached to Marvel Studios’ long-troubled Blade reboot, making her at least one star who’s still actually in it. Speaking in a recent interview, Goth addressed the speculation head-on, saying she remains part of the film and believes the delays are ultimately a good thing. “It’s for the best that it’s taken the time that it has,” she said. “They want to do it right.”

The project has cycled through multiple writers and directors over the past few years, leaving fans increasingly uncertain about when Mahershala Ali’s long-awaited debut as the Daywalker will finally happen. At this point, Ali and Goth are the only confirmed stars still attached to the film, following the reported exits of Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre. The movie currently has no director, and its script is still undergoing revisions, and is definitely not jinxed or anything.

What’s the Issue with Blade?

Blade has become one of the most turbulent productions in the MCU’s history — what should have been a rare misstep for a studio known for its meticulous control, but now seems to be slightly more common as time goes by. What makes it even more painful for fans is that Ali is one of Marvel’s most prestigious casting choices to date.

When Blade was announced in 2019, audiences were stunned that Ali — fresh off two Oscar wins for Moonlight and Green Book — would be stepping into the vampire-slayer role once played by Wesley Snipes. Since then, however, the reboot has been plagued by turnover and delays, and bizarrely, Snipes has actually portrayed Blade on screen before Ali at this point, in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Even David S. Goyer, who wrote all three of the original Blade films starring Snipes, weighed in recently on the Happy Sad Confused podcast about what makes the property so hard to get right. “I think Blade is a relatively simple story,” Goyer said. “It’s not complicated. The promise of Blade is that it should have insane ass-kicking, it should be pretty scary, might be R-rated, and it should not be complicated.”

While Blade remains stuck in development limbo, Goth’s career is moving full speed ahead. This fall, she stars alongside Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. She’s also wrapped filming on Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, due out in 2026, and will spend the end of this year in London shooting Star Wars: Starfighter for Shawn Levy, opposite Ryan Gosling and Matt Smith.
