The lauded AMC series Dark Winds is set to return for a Season 4 and the first look at the upcoming batch of episodes has been released. The teaser for the eight-episode Season 4 highlights how the narrative will take our protagonists to all-new locales, which could prove more dangerous than anyone was expecting. With all the prestige TV available to viewers, Dark Winds might not always be the first series that fans bring up when talking about the most high-profile series, though with its first three seasons all sitting at 100% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, critics can’t get enough of it. Season 4 of Dark Winds premieres on AMC on Feb. 15, 2026.
AMC describes the new season:
The series’ gripping fourth season focuses on the search for a missing Navajo girl, which takes Leaphorn, Chee and Manuelito from the safety of Navajo Nation to the gritty terrain of 1970s Los Angeles in a race against the clock to save her from an obsessive killer with ties to organized crime. The new season’s second episode, which is set to debut on Sunday, February 22, marks the television directorial debut of the multihyphenate Zahn McClarnon.
What Is ‘Dark Winds’ About?
Dark Winds debuted in 2022 and is based on the book series by Tony Hillerman. The series was created by Graham Roland with John Wirth serving as showrunner. Producers on the series include Robert Redford and George R.R. Martin. In addition to serving as producer, a cameo in Season 3 of Dark Winds marked Redford’s final on-screen appearance, as well as his final project he worked on behind the scenes.
Movies and TV Westerns have a long and storied history, with audiences currently enjoying a Western renaissance, thanks in large part to Taylor Sheridan and his Yellowstone series of shows. Prior to Dark Winds, the movie The Dark Wind and the made-for-TV movies Skinwalkers, Coyote Waits, and A Thief of Time attempted to channel the power of the source material to no avail. This new iteration of Dark Winds comes at an opportune time, when interest in Westerns is arguably the highest it’s been in decades, while the production value behind TV series is also higher than when previous adaptations were made.
A lot of the praise the show has received comes courtesy of producer and star McClarnon, with Kiowa Gordon, Jessica Matten, and Deanna Allison also starring in the program. Previous seasons have seen cast members like Noah Emmerich, Rainn Wilson, Jeri Ryan, Jenna Elfman, and Bruce Greenwood, with Season 4 adding Franka Potente, Chaske Spencer, and Titus Welliver to the cast.
While AMC ordered this Season 4 before Season 3 had even premiered, it’s currently unknown how many more seasons the show could run for.
