Warning! This article contains spoilers for upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II #5While the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are no strangers to upgrades, transformations, and–most notably–mutations, the Power Rangers just offered them their greatest one yet–and it’s all thanks to a fighter they believed was their enemy: Ranger X.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers have crossed paths on two separate occasions, and both times, they have had to face a corrupted Power Ranger of TMNT origin. In the first crossover, Shredder gained the power of the Green Ranger (with an epic amalgamated design to match). While Green Ranger Shredder proved to be a huge threat to both the Rangers and the Turtles, the corrupted Ranger in the second TMNT/Power Rangers book, Ranger X, is both far more powerful and impactful to the heroes–especially the Turtles. This evil Ranger is none other than Casey Jones himself, a long-time friend and ally of the Ninja Turtles. The psychological impact of seeing someone who was like a brother to them fighting alongside the likes of Krang and Rita Repulsa is detrimental to the Turtles, and the power Ranger X wields is too much for the Power Rangers to handle. However, in the latest issue of this sequel series, all that changed–and the Ninja Turtles are about to get an epic upgrade as a result.
The TMNT are Getting Their Own Ranger X Power Rangers Suits
In a release from League of Comic Geeks previewing Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II #5 (by Ryan Parrott and Dan Mora), fans are given a look at not only a brief synopsis of the upcoming comic book issue, but also of a few variant covers that are arguably more insightful into what fans can expect from the series moving forward. On one such variant cover by artist Ivan Tao, the Ninja Turtles take center-stage, each one complete with a Ranger X suit just like the one Casey Jones got at the beginning of the series. Fans are then given another look at the Turtles in the Ranger X suits on the main cover by artist Dan Mora, only this time, they’re featured fighting side-by-side with the newly-mutated Mighty Mutant Power Rangers.
While this look into the future of the series is unquestionably awesome, it isn’t too shocking based on what just transpired in the latest issue of the series. In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II #3, the villainous Ranger X tells the Turtles that he never truly went bad, and that he was acting as a double agent to obtain information and power from the enemy. Not only that, but the issue ended with Casey telling the Power Ranger and the Ninja Turtles that he had a plan for how to stop Krang and Rita, but the issue ends before readers can learn what that plan is for themselves. Based on what is shown on these preview covers, it seems as though Casey Jones has found a way to share his Ranger X power with the Ninja Turtles–resulting in this epic upgrade.
This series as a whole has been an absolute treat for ‘90s kids everywhere, as not only are the Ninja Turtles wielding the Power Rangers’ abilities/transformations, but so, too, are the Rangers taking a page from the Ninja Turtles’ playbook. When the Power Rangers lost their ‘morphin’ ability, the Turtles came up with a way to temporarily mutate them into their respective dinosaurs–creating the coolest incarnation of the Power Rangers yet. Now, so soon after the Power Rangers get TMNT upgrades, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are getting Power Rangers upgrades–and, based on their new costumes depicted on these preview covers, it’s all thanks to Ranger X.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II #5 will be available April 26, 2023.
