The Waste Bear quest guide – Soulframe

Time to save your big friend, Bromius.

In Soulframe’s The Waste Bear quest, you need to find out what happened to Bromius, the Arbearer. This gentle giant has been corrupted beyond recognition, but he can still be saved if you are up to the challenge.

Getting Started

To start this quest, as of Prelude 12, you will need to talk to Verminia in Nightfold. If you don’t have Vermina, then you will need to complete the Brewer of Hues quest to get access to her and add her to your Nightfold. Once you have talked to her, it is time to head to the location shown on the map above to interact with a tree dripping sap. With that done, return to the Nightfold and talk to Verminia again by interacting with her cauldron to place the sap there.

After speaking with Vermina, leave the Nightfold and check your map. There will be a golden circle marked on the map showing her rough location, and you can find her in the eastern section. When you talk to her, she will give you a little guide upgrade by combining your sparrow and a rat into an unholy creation called Floppet. After that, just hit G to use the guide and follow your little flying friend to the next location.

To Wevetwood

Follow the Floppet into the Wevetwood, and you will come to a large tree that appears to have taken some damage. Keep your eyes peeled for small, dangerous enemies that lurk in the woods. Interact with the tree, which is likely to cause some enemies to spawn, then take them out. This will trigger a cutscene showing you some details on poor Bromius.

Follow your guide, and it will bring you to a magical purple barrier that you need a special song to get past. You should have one note from the first tree, but you will need three more. Check your map, and you will see three different markets that you need to visit, each of which contains another tree at the center.

Interact with them all to get an additional note, but once again, be mindful of spawning enemies. When you have all three, return to the purple barrier and play the song at it, which will cause it to dissipate. Head inside, and prepare for a fight. There will be some enemies inside that you need to take out, and when that is done, interact with the odd metal jug in the center of the area.

You’ll see more of Bromius, including the fate of his precious magical seed. Set off in pursuit of the Mendicant who stole it.

Save the Seed

Follow the trail of the Mendicant down into the wasteland. The terrain here is blasted and blighted, and you shall be attacked by a couple of waves of enemies, the Mendicant Knights. Take them all out, but beware, as they can teleport quite easily. All you need to do is follow the path forward and kill any enemies that you encounter.

The Wazzard of the Wastes

Time for a miniboss fight, as the Wazzard of the Wastes must be dealt with if we want this seed back. It has a number of attacks that are easy enough to deal with. It can fire a wave of energy at you that can be dodged if you time your roll well. It will turn into a tree and cause meteors of energy to fall on you, and it will summon large spider-like creatures to attack you while it disappears.

For the most part, this boss completely folds against aggressive tactics, so get in his face and smash him with your melee weapon. He will try to back up, and you can force him out of the arena, cutting off his ability to shapeshift or summon. Just keep on him until he is dead. When he dies, he will turn into a tree in the center of the arena, and you can interact with it to get the seed.

The Neath’uns

For the next step, we need to head down into the nearby tunnels, so head back to where we found the big metal jug and follow the Floppet down into the caves. This section is pretty straightforward. Follow your guide, and from time to time, you will come to a section that you can progress through. Look around for barrels stuck in walls or under branches that glow purple, then throw your sword at them.

This will break them, spilling magical liquid everywhere that will cause a new path that you can follow to grow. Just keep making your way forward, building the bridges, fighting any enemies, and then you will come to the final area. This is a little more complicated, but go around to the right side of the central hill and smash the purple energy barrel. After that, just keep going up, smashing runes as you find them to create new paths.

The Waste Bear fight

The fight against Bromius is pretty straightforward, but also tough. This guy has quite the health bar, and it will take a while to get through it. Mostly, you need to be careful of his swiping claws, jumping attacks, and falling rocks, and it should be a simple issue to learn the patterns and adapt to them.
