Mega Evolutions have been polarizing throughout the Pokémon community since they were introduced, but they sometimes allow us to see creatures in a brand-new light. Pokémon Legends: Z-A brings that Mega mechanic back into the fray, featuring returning Pokémon.
Plus, how much more iconic can you get than the classic evolutionary path of Magikarp and Gyrados? Here’s where to find your very own Magikarp, and eventually, a Mega Gyrados. As you might imagine, you can pick up a Magikarp early in the game.
How To Get Gyarados In Pokémon Legends: Z-A
You’ll Find A Magikarp Early In The Game
Magikarp is a classic for a reason, and it won’t require a ton of legwork to find one. As you start off the game, complete the initial tutorials that eventually land you in Rank Y in the Z-A Royale. After that, you’ll be able to wander around Lumiose City on your own, and discover its many shops and Wild Zones to explore.
Once you have the freedom to move beyond the tutorial areas, you can head into Wild Zone 2. This location has plenty of Magikarps, and they’re extremely easy to catch. Level one to 20, and you’ll end up with a Gyrados. Now comes the next part so that you can make that Gyrados Mega Evolve.
Where To Find Gyaradosite For Mega Gyarados In Legends: Z-A
Break Up Those Pink Mega Shards
Once you have your Gyrados, you’ll need to locate and purchase the Gyradosite Mega Evolution item. These are available at Quasartico Inc, located in the northwest portion of Lumiose. For reference, it’s the gigantic tower, and the Mega Shard exchange is located at the desk on the first floor. You’ll be able to access it when you rank up to rank F in the story.
Trigger the Mega Shard exchange, and buy the Gyaradosite, which costs 240 shards. There are a ton of other Pokémon-specific shards you can grab here, but if you’re focusing on Gyrados first, make sure you get the item unique to its Mega Evolution.
In fact, make sure that you’re grabbing mega shards every chance you can when you’re traveling through the city. They’ll add up, and you need quite a few of them to actually buy all the items you need to Mega Evolve your Pokémon. After that, it’s time to hunt down some shinies.
That’s all you need to do to get your own Mega Gyrados in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but there are many more Megas to find and take advantage of. Just make sure you’re hitting those Mega Shard bundles every chance you get.
