John Oates has broken his silence after being sued by his longtime music partner Daryl Hall — but he’s not acknowledging any legal woes.
The other half of the pop duo Hall & Oates took to social media Thursday to share a Thanksgiving message, encouraging a “more compassionate and supportive world.”
“During this time of communal reflection and connection with loved ones, let’s not forget those experiencing challenges globally,” he wrote on Instagram. “As we come together, consider reaching out to support those in need — whether through local charities or international humanitarian initiatives.”
Oates, 75, concluded his post, writing, “May our collective efforts contribute to a more compassionate and supportive world.”
Court records cited by Philadelphia magazine show that Hall filed an undisclosed complaint against Oates and the co-trustees of the John W. Oates TISA Trust on Nov. 16. The blue-eyed soul crooner also filed a temporary restraining order, which was granted and slated to take effect Nov. 30.
According to TMZ, the lawsuit reportedly involves allegations of a contract breach, potentially stemming from royalties or Oates performing the group’s music during solo shows. The outlet noted that the pair has previously been in arbitration.
Since the early 1970s, the Hall & Oates have released 18 studio albums, featuring six chart-toppers, including “Maneater,” “Rich Girl” and “Out of Touch.”
Over the years, the five-time Grammy Award nominees parted ways and reunited several times, saying they have “different directions.”
