Four firefighters hospitalized in Little Italy blaze

Four firefighters were injured battling a three-alarm fire in Little Italy on Sunday, according to officials.

When smoke-eaters arrived at the building on Hester St. near Mulberry St. around 6:15 p.m., the blaze had already spread to multiple floors of the six-story building, the FDNY said.

The fire continued to rage nearly two hours later as 138 firefighters from 33 different units fought the flames.

Four firefighters were transported to area hospitals for minor burns and two other injured people refused medical attention at the scene, officials said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
