Woman, 88, killed by Access-A-Ride van in Chinatown crash: NYPD

An 88-year-old woman was killed when she was struck by an Access-A-Ride van just steps from her Chinatown home, cops said Saturday.

Ngan Yung, was crossing the corner of Canal and Allen Sts. just before 11 a.m. Friday when the van slammed into her.

EMS rushed her to Bellevue Hospital, but she couldn’t be saved, police said.

Yung lived just down the block from where she was struck.

Michael Broughton, the Access-A-Ride employee driving the van, was making a right turn from Canal St. onto Allen St. when he struck Yung, cops said.

Broughton remained at the scene and was charged with failure to yield and failure to exercise due care. He was given a desk appearance ticket and is expected to face the charges in the coming weeks, cops said.

Access-A-Ride is an MTA-funded program that transports disabled commuters who are unable to use public buses and subways.
