White House cocaine investigation ends with no suspects

The Secret Service concluded its exhaustive investigation into a bag of cocaine found in the White House on July 2 without any suspects or arrests.

The contraband was located inside a vestibule receptacle that visitors use to store electronic and personal devices before entering the West Wing. Safety measures were immediately taken to make sure the initially unidentified “white, powdery substance” didn’t pose a threat to anyone in the White House, according to a statement from the Secret Service released Thursday.

Testing by the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department determined the baggie contained booger sugar. That packet was then analyzed by the FBI for fingerprints and DNA, but results came up inconclusive.

“While awaiting the FBl’s results, the Secret Service investigation into how this item entered the White House continued,” the Secret Service said. “This review included a backwards examination that spanned several days prior to the discovery of the substance and developed an index of several hundred individuals who may have accessed the area where the substance was found.”

Investigators also reviewed surveillance video, which wasn’t useful in identifying a suspect.

“Without physical evidence, the investigation will not be able to single out a person of interest from the hundreds of individuals who passed through the vestibule where the cocaine was discovered,” the Secret Service concluded. “At this time, the Secret Service’s investigation is closed due to a lack of physical evidence.”

A person familiar with the investigation told the Associated Press the cocaine was likely left behind by one of the hundreds of tourists who visited the White House the day the drugs were found or in the days prior to the discovery.

This week, right-wing congresswoman and conspiracy theory enthusiast Marjorie Taylor Greene called for President Biden, his entire family and all “potential” suspects to be tested for drug use.

The president and his family were in Maryland spending the weekend at Camp David when the Secret Service came across the illegal stimulant. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said the White House Situation Room, where staffers leave their electronic devices, was not in use at the time of the discovery.
